This interactive 90-minute workshop is presented in partnership with the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) Percussion Studio. This session is designed to break down the boundaries of what makes an instrument and give you an insider's look at the incredible variety of sounds that drive modern performance. This workshop is fully interactive, casual, and built for the curious. Led by talented artists and educators from the SMTD Percussion Studio, you will get to experience a massive variety of traditional and modern contemporary percussion instruments. Discover how unexpected, everyday items can be transformed into powerful percussion tools. This session will also feature live demonstrations and fun, interactive rhythm activities where you get to join in on the action. Whether you want to understand the rhythm behind upcoming UMS performances or just want to try your hand at making some noise, this workshop will completely change how you listen to the world around you. Note: Sandbox Percussion will not be performing at this event.
