Violinist Cassandra (Cassie) May, age 21, is a junior at Carnegie Mellon University, pursuing a BXA degree in Systems Design and Violin Performance under William Van der Sloot. Born and raised in the Bay Area, she began violin at age three and studied with Patricia Burnham and David Chernyavsky. Cassie has served as concertmaster of the Golden State Youth Orchestra, assistant concertmaster of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, and principal violinist of the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic. A four-time GSYO Concerto Competition winner, she has also earned top prizes from the Junior Bach Festival, Palo Alto Philharmonic, and Peninsula Symphony. Cassie has attended the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and Eastman School of Music, and studied at the Mozarteum University in Summer 2025 with Igor Petrushevski.
