The evening begins with Rossini's beloved Barber of Seville Sinfonia followed by the American premiere of Mexican composer Gustavo Larrea's Fayuca. On the second half, the LSO is thrilled to welcome Spanish-Dutch pianist Albert Cano Smit, winner of the 2019 YCA Susan Wadsworth International Auditions and the 2017 Walter W. Naumburg Piano Competition. Cano Smit is renowned for his captivating performances, storytelling artistry, and nuanced musicality. He will join the orchestra for Gershwin's tour de force Concerto in F. A portion of the proceeds from this concert will benefit the LSO’s Community Partner, Tunefoolery. 2026 marks Tunefoolery Music’s thirty-second year of connecting music with mental health. Founded at a drop-in center in Cambridge, MA, for individuals with psychiatric disabilities, Tunefoolery began as a group of four musicians who performed 15 concerts for family, friends, and peers in their first year. Today, as a Boston-based nonprofit supported by the Mass Cultural Council and the MA Dept. of Mental Health, Tunefoolery has grown to 25 active musicians (age 27-79!) who play a variety of instruments and musical genres and benefit from the organization’s performance opportunities, music education programs, and supportive community. This past year, the musicians of Tunefoolery performed 658 gigs at hospitals, shelters, mental health centers, and nursing homes, providing music to audiences that typically lack access to live performances. All programs are subject to change. Please reach out to the Longwood Symphony Orchestra with any questions regarding programming or ticketing details at (617) 987-0100 or info@longwoodsymphony.org.
