Bill Street, saxophone & Viktoria Reiswich-Dapp, piano Goodson Chapel – Recital Hall Guest Artist Recital Join us as Jasmine “Jazzie” Pigott brings her bold voice, powerful musicianship and dynamic artistry to the stage at Shenandoah Conservatory. Becoming: Stories of Conflict, Discovery and Freedom is a recital program demonstrating the internal conflict between sticking to tradition and embracing self-expression. A trailblazing performer and composer who bridges classical tradition with contemporary expression, Pigott’s programs weave storytelling, jazz influences, spoken word and virtuosic technique into a compelling musical journey. Meet the Artist Dr. Jasmine “Jazzie” Pigott is a tuba player, composer, educator and advocate whose work blends virtuosity with a mission to inspire musicians of color and elevate Black music styles in classical spaces. Her career highlights include a sold-out concert in the Shriver Hall Concert Series; concerti with the Rockville Brass Band, Brass Band of Central Illinois, and more; residencies at numerous institutions, including Western Michigan University and UNC Greensboro; and recital tours across the United States and internationally in Spain, Colombia and Costa Rica. A genre-defying recitalist, she performs programs that tell her story, often featuring her own compositions which integrate Black musical idioms into contemporary classical works. Her notable works include Roots Torn, Routes Chosen: A Story of Black Migration for wind ensemble and spoken word, Against All Odds for brass ensemble, and her spoken-word tuba works Gateways, Foundations and Reflections. Dr. Pigott is adjunct professor of tuba at Rowan University and a faculty artist for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s YOLA National Festival. She holds degrees from Ithaca College, Michigan State University and the Peabody Conservatory. Digital Program Shenandoah Conservatory uses digital programs for all performances.
