Justin Isenhour grew up in Fort Mill, SC and picked up a trombone in his public school’s sixth grade band. He now performs in a wide variety of genres including classical, jazz and commercial music. He currently performs with the Rock Hill Symphony and Augusta (GA) Symphony Orchestra. He is a former member of the Arkansas Symphony and previously performed with the Charlotte Symphony, The Blumenthal Theater, Greeley Philharmonic, Western Piedmont Symphony, Spartanburg Symphony, and the South Carolina Philharmonic. As a teacher, Dr. Isenhour works with students of all ages, but spends the bulk of his time with his collegiate trombone studio at Winthrop University where he also teaches Music Theory courses. In March of 2020, the Winthrop Trombone Choir performed at the American Trombone Workshop. His research interests include a music pedagogy system known as Creative Motion. Creative Motion utilizes kinesthetic principles for the authentic conveyance of artistic ideas. Dr. Isenhour’s article on approaching ornamentation in Johann Georg Albrechtsberger’s Concerto in B-flat for Trombone (1769)appeared in the April 2006 International Trombone Association Journal (Volume 35, Number 2). His iOS app Click Pitch is currently being redesigned as a web application. He has performed or presented at the 2017, 2021, and 2022 International Trombone Festivals. He pursued a degree in music at Appalachian State University under Dr. Harold McKinney, earning a Bachelors in Music. After completing his undergraduate degree, he served as the Trombone/Euphonium Teaching Assistant at the University of Northern Colorado studying with Dr. Nathaniel Wickham and graduating with a Masters in Music. He was awarded a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of South Carolina working with Dr. Brad Edwards. He has also studied with and performed for: Nitzan Haroz, Toby Oft, Dave Taylor, Colin Williams, Haim Avitsur, Larry Zalkind, Carl Lenthe, Gene Pokorny, Rick Simerly and Wycliffe Gordon. He again resides in Fort Mill, SC with his beautiful wife, Jennifer, their wonderful sons Owen and William Dr. Mary Chung began playing piano in South Korea and continued with her studies and graduated from the National Conservatory of Music in the Dominican Republic. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from North Greenville University, a MM, and a DMA in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Southern Mississippi. Chung is an active soloist and collaborative artist. She has performed both nationally and internationally, in Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Honduras. Her solo awards include first place in the 11th Luis A. Ferré International Piano Competition (Puerto Rico), winner of the William T. Gower Concerto Competition, finalist in the Concerto Competition at the Brevard Music Festival, alternate winner in Mississippi’s MTNA Young Artist Auditions, as well as a recipient of the Music Teachers National Association’s Student Achievement Recognition Award. She was also selected as Teaching Fellow with the International Performing Arts Institute in Germany. During her doctoral studies, Chung was the recipient of one of the University of Southern Mississippi Doctoral Assistantship Award, a competitive award for doctoral students who have demonstrated outstanding work. She has performed as a soloist with the Dominican Republic National Symphony Orchestra, she toured as a soloist with San Juan Chamber Orchestra in Puerto Rico, and Shawnee Community Orchestra. And as an active collaborative artist, Chung has performed with many renowned artists and professors from universities nationally and internationally. She has accompanied numerous degree recitals and masterclasses, as well as state, regional, and national competitions for both singers and instrumentalists. Chung has also served as a pianist for the Southern Opera and Music Theater Company, Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera, Meistersingers, Oratorio Chorus, and others. Dr. Chung not only serves as a guest clinician for master Classes and an active adjudicator for piano competitions and festivals and has served in Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Mississippi, but her students won MTNA State competitions in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Chung served as a full-time faculty at The University of Southern Mississippi, as well as Oklahoma Baptist University, as an adjunct professor at Belhaven College, piano instructor for Piano Institute at the William Carey University, “Appasionato” music camp in the Dominican Republic, and at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. In the Fall of 2017, Dr. Chung joined the faculty at Ouachita Baptist University as coordinator of the piano department and she is the ASMTA Vice President/President-elect and director of the Ouachita Community Arts Program. Dr. Chung and her husband, Dr. Carlos Feller enjoy spending time and traveling with their energetic son, Lucas.
