On Tuesday, March 25 at 11:30 a.m. in the Davis Concert Hall, the Circumpolar Music Series will host Brian Walker II as part of the Department of Music's Alaska Native Music course. He previously taught Alaska Native drum making and drum practices at UAA and is currently pursuing his MFA in Sculpture-Dimensional Studies at Alfred University.

Brian Walker II is an Inupiat and Deg Hit’an mask maker in Anchorage, Alaska. Previously an apprentice to the esteemed Perry Eaton and Alvin Amason, he went on to intern with the Walt Disney Imagineering company and in 2020 Walker II obtained his BFA at the Institute of American Indian Arts. Growing up living off the land and being taught cultural traditions, Brian uses his identity and background to express Indigenous narratives. He attains his inspirations from invaluable life experiences as well as everyday encounters with the animals and people of Alaska.
