An Evening of Poetry with Patricia Smith in Conversation with Chigozie Obioma | Lanier Reading Series
Nov. 02
With support from a Willson Center for Humanities and Arts Public Impact Grant, the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, Department of Dance, Department of Romance Languages and the Latin & Carribean Studies Institute have teamed up with the nonprofit dance organization TIMBAthens to host its 2nd Annual Ritmos y Raíces Athens Dance Weekender on August 21-23. New to Latin and/or African dancing? Not a problem! Alongside Intermediate/Advanced workshops, there will be a beginner track featuring 13 workshops at UGA Dance on Saturday and Sunday designed for dancers who are not familiar with Latin and/or African dances to learn salsa, bachata, timba, rueda de casino, and kizomba. Friday: "Welcome Party" at Athentic kicks off with a Reparto class at 8pm with dancing until 12:30 a.m.. Included in Full Pass. Cover is $15/$10 with UGA ID. Saturday: "Showtime" at Live Wire is our main event, which includes a Rueda de Casino class, performances, and dancing until 2 a.m. Included in Full Pass & Saturday Pass. Cover is $20/$15 with UGA ID. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about Latin and African dances. Please visit www.ritmosyraicesathens.com for more information or to register. UGA dance or music students who would like to volunteer hours at the event could earn a free pass.
