Location: Jackson Street Building, Lecture Hall 123 - 9-23-2026 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm (America/New_York) (1 hour)

Join the for a lecture from Katie Marages, CED Assistant Professor of Historic Preservation. The lecture, “Bankhead and Beyond: Public Housing, Public Relations, and Politics in 1970s Atlanta,” will trace how media portrayals in this time period reinforced images of public housing as dangerous, dysfunctional and beyond repair, even as Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson sought to reframe these images using public relations. The lecture will underscore how public housing’s fate in Atlanta was shaped as much by public relations, political performance, and media representation as by bricks‑and‑mortar conditions on the ground.
