Shred Trio
Chamber Music Ensemble Clarinet Bass Violin Oboe
Location: Harris Concert Hall, 3775 Central Avenue, Memphis, TN, USA - 10-27-2026 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm (America/Chicago) (1 hour)

Shred Trio is an adventurous new-music ensemble featuring oboist Jennifer Case, bass clarinetist Taylor Barlow, and violinist Joshua Burel - all faculty at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Blending virtuosic performance with the raw energy and emotional immediacy of the emo and pop-punk era, Shred Trio brings a high-octane, unapologetically fun spirit to contemporary chamber music.

The ensemble’s aesthetic is rooted in contrast: precision alongside raw emotion, intensity alongside playfulness, and the visceral energy of a live rock show alongside the intimacy of chamber music. Shred Trio embraces music that is expressive, emotionally charged, and unafraid to have fun—inviting audiences to experience contemporary classical music as something immediate, physical, and deeply human.

Shred Trio has performed throughout the United States, including appearances at the 2025 Low ClarinetFest of the International Clarinet Association in Phoenix, Arizona; the Tennessee Valley Music Festival in Huntsville, Alabama; the Lawrence Conservatory in Appleton, Wisconsin; and the University of Memphis in Tennessee. The ensemble has collaborated with composers including Rafael Fusco, Thereasa Martin, Andrew Creech, and others, championing new works that explore the expressive possibilities of their unusual instrumentation.

The ensemble will be featured on Taylor Barlow's forthcoming solo bass clarinet album performing Joshua Burel’s Shred of Existence, a work that exemplifies the group’s commitment to high-energy performance, emotional intensity, and musical storytelling.

At its core, Shred Trio is about shredding - creating performances that connect with audiences through energy, emotion, spontaneity, and an unmistakable sense of fun.
