Announced on April 1, 2026 (😉), the Wellness Program at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance has implemented a new program designed to address a critical and often neglected component of well-being: sleep. With our new program, Normalizing Abbreviated Public Slumber, or NAPS, the entire community of students, faculty, and staff now take a daily mandatory nap, whether they are in class, at their desks, or in rehearsal. Many thanks to Paola Savvidou, manager of SMTD’s Wellness Program; Madysen Casey; Professor Freda Herseth; Katie Gunning; Professor Malcolm Tulip; Ellie Mayfield; Tyler Brunsman; Christina Traister and the Stage Combat class; Amy West and the Ballet class; Lauren Juntunen (violin) and the Wellness for the Performing Artist class; Professor Doug Perkins, Kate Glayen (marimba) and the U-M Percussion Ensemble; Tessie Morales; and many other students, faculty, and staff who helped make this video possible. Go NAPS! Go Blue!
