About the William P. Malm Stearns Collection Concert Series and Instrument Preservation Fund This concert series and fund is named in honor of the late William P. Malm, University of Michigan Professor Emeritus of Music and past Director of the Stearns Collection of Musical Instruments. Professor Malm’s illustrious career is marked by his leading role in the early establishment of a highly ranked graduate program in ethnomusicology at the University of Michigan that continues to train generations of distinguished scholars. He is recognized internationally for nurturing and raising the stature of the Stearns Collection, among the most diverse and extraordinary holdings of musical instruments on a university campus.
