This light-hearted comedy stars, for the first time together, the young power duo of Sophia Loren (in her first major feature film) and Marcello Mastroianni (in his first comedic role). Often categorized as part of the “pink neorealism” genre—romantic comedies and dramas set among the bleak conditions of post-war Italy--the film takes place in working-class communities in Rome in the early 1950s.
