Pianist Michelle Cann closes the DeBartolo Performing Arts Persenting Series season with a recital that highlights her expressive range and deep connection to the music she performs. The evening's program features a compelling mix of Romantic masterpieces and influential modern works, offering a journey through emotion, history, and creativity. The program includes Frédéric Chopin's Ballade No. 3 in A-flat major, a lyrical and technically demanding work, followed by Joel Thompson's My Dungeon Shook and Three American Preludes, reflecting the Black American experience with urgency and poetic depth. Cann also performs Felix Mendelssohn's Fantasie in F-sharp Minor, a piece filled with elegance and introspection. After intermission, the program continues with William Grant Still's A Deserted Plantation, evoking haunting beauty and spiritual memory, and concludes with the fiery brilliance of Franz Liszt's Mephisto Waltz No. 1.Known for her passionate interpretations and commitment to highlighting underrepresented composers, Cann brings both intensity and grace to a virtuoso finale.
