Opus Two, the award-winning violin-piano duo made of USC violin faculty William Terwilliger and pianist Andrew Cooperstock, will present: Mid-Century Modern: American Works Violin and Piano on Monday, September 28, 2026 at 7:30 pm in the USC School of Music Recital Hall. The duo will perform three works by beloved American composers: the Sonatas for Violin and Piano by Aaron Copland (1943) and John Corligliano (1963), and the William Grant Still Suite for Violin and Piano (1943), based on works of art by African American artists. These three works from the middle of the 20th century reflect the distinctly American vitality of rhythm and neo-romantic lyricism of that era, and yet are all uniquely expressive and powerful their own ways.
Opus Two has performed on six continents and has an extensive discography of critically-acclaimed, single-composer CDs of Copland, Liebermann, Bernstein, Schoenfield, Gershwin and Sondheim on the Albany, Azica, Naxos and Bridge labels.
