Experience the timeless love story of Romeo and Juliet with the South Carolina Ballet, accompanied by live music from the South Carolina Ballet Orchestra under the direction of Scott Weiss. Performances are scheduled for February 8th at 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm.
With stunning choreography by William Starrett, this production delves deep into the heart of Shakespeare s tragic tale. The State has called it perfect for the romantic at heart. Principal dancers Claire Rapp and Joshua Van Dyke return as the iconic star-crossed lovers. Ms. Rapp, who captivated audiences as Juliet during the 2021-2022 season, eagerly returns to the role. Mr. Van Dyke, reprising his role as Romeo from 2022, promises another dynamic and emotionally charged performance.
Set to Prokofiev s breathtaking score, the orchestra will be conducted live by Scott Weiss, enhancing the emotional depth of the performance. The ballet portrays the intense romance of two young lovers caught in the turmoil of their feuding families. Executive and Artistic Director William Starrett s vision intertwines dramatic sword fights, tender love duets, and humorous moments, creating an unforgettable evening that captures the essence of Shakespeare s masterpiece.
