Ethan Carter is a clarinetist/saxophonist and private teacher in the Pittsburgh area, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Performance (Clarinet) with a minor in Conducting at Carnegie Mellon University. He is currently working on an AMS in Conducting with Professor George Vosburgh and Professor Stephen Story.
Ethan has studied the clarinet with Michael Rusinek (Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra), Eddie Daniels (Jazz and Classical Clarinet Virtuoso), and Thomas Thompson (Carnegie Mellon University).
Ethan is also an assistant conductor with the CMU All University Orchestra, studying and conducting works from many notable composers, his favorite so far being Bernstein's Overture to Candide.
Outside of traditional ensembles, Ethan has performed in several pit orchestras in shows such as Beauty and the Beast and A Little Night Music. He is the bandleader of the Carnegie Mellon University Student Jazz Quartet and is also a member of the “Musicians with a Mission” organization, performing for local healthcare settings throughout Pittsburgh.
Ethan has been featured as a soloist with the Carnegie Mellon University All University Orchestra, performing the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, Carnegie Mellon University Wind Ensemble, performing the Artie Shaw Clarinet Concerto and the Pittsburgh CAPA Orchestra, performing Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2.
Ethan is a recipient of multiple awards and recognitions which include: the Silver Lei Award (Honolulu International Film Festival), the Henry Archer Award (CMU Philharmonic Concerto Competition), Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra 2022 Concerto Competition
Runner-up, Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestra 2020 Conducting Competition Winner, 3rd Place Tuesday Musical Club Scholarship Competition, and the Army Minuteman Scholarship (Army ROTC).
Outside the realm of music, Ethan is a Second Lieutenant with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, serving as a Military Intelligence Officer.
