Please join us for a presentation and performance by Sylvester Makobi (tenor), who will be joined virtually by Lawrence Barasa (tenor), and by Professor Kimberly Carballo (piano). Several music institutions globally are seeing dynamic changes in the diversity of their performance spaces. These changes have led to an increase in the performance of works by composers from Africa and the African diaspora. The programming of these works also addresses the gap in repertoire used in teaching singing at institutions of higher learning. However, questions arise on the performance practice of these new works. The presentation will include a discussion and demonstration of the strategies and decisions made by the presenters and their collaborators when performing 'Kumbukumbu za Utotoni' by Eddie Mony.
