From Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, to the global stage, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio grew up immersed in the rich musical heritage of his beloved island, which he highlights in his music. Bad Bunny has also been vocal about issues affecting Puerto Rico, including Hurricane Maria, gentrification, and the destruction and privatization of nature. This exhibit presents moments from Bad Bunny's career, with an emphasis on his use of bomba, plena, and jíbaro music on the 2025 album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS. Come together to celebrate this historic moment as Bad Bunny provides the soundtrack to the Super Bowl. Already being dubbed the "Benito Bowl," Bad Bunny has created a unique platform for Puerto Ricans around the world to share their culture and identity with a global audience. An opening reception will take place on Friday, February 6, in the Cook Music Library Lobby, featuring DJ Emilio Aracena playing a musical "sancocho," a rich mix of many of the genres you'll hear at the "Benito Bowl." Presented in celebration of the Latin American Music Center (LAMC)'s 65th Anniversary. Come join us… ¡a bailar! Light refreshments will be served. This exhibit is a collaboration of Emma Dederick (LAMC Librarian and Curator of Special Collections) in partnership with Music Librarianship students and LAMC Technical Services Assistants Lucy Rissmeyer (MLS/MA Musicology student), Lauren O'Connor (MLS/MA Musicology student), and Luz Ramirez (undergraduate student in Violin Performance).
