Mozart: Symphony No. 29 in A Major, K.201About the ConductorAnthony Elliott, an honors graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, is an American conductor and cellist. He has led numerous orchestras in prestigious settings around the world, including Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul, Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall in Detroit, Benaroya Hall in Seattle, as well as concerts in Holland, Germany, and Austria. Presently Emeritus Professor of Music at the University of Michigan, he has guest conducted the San Antonio Symphony, Sphinx Symphony, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Prince George's Philharmonic, Kalamazoo Philharmonic, CAMMAC Orchestra, and Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra. His work as a tireless advocate on behalf of music has included associations with such organizations as the Houston Youth Symphony and Ballet, Blossom Music Festival, Texas Music Festival, Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra, Sphinx Chamber Orchestra, and Seattle Youth Symphony. He has championed new works by African American composers Michael Abels, David Baker, Primous Fountain, Augustus Hill, Chad Hughes, James Lee, and Coleridge Taylor Perkinson; American composers Leslie Bassett, Evan Chambers, Michael Daugherty, and Joan Tower; and Canadian composers Richard Cohen, Jeffrey Ryan, Fred Schipizsky, and Robert Turner. Fully staged opera performances include Mozart's Così fan tutte and TheMagic Flute and Menotti's The Consul and Amahl and the Night Visitors. Also a prizewinning cellist, Elliott is the first person to win the Feuermann International Solo Cello Competition. He has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony, Minnesota Orchestrathe Vancouver Symphony, and CBC Toronto Orchestra, in chamber music with present and former concertmasters of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Berlin Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, and Chicago Symphony, and with members of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Emerson, Cleveland, Juilliard, and Concord string quartets.
