Monday, October 26, 7:30 PM EDTEnjoy this performance from almost anywhere in the world viaLIVE@jacobs!About the DirectorBrent Wallarab, composer, arranger, producer, and educator, has a career spanning nearly five decades. The Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, founded in 1994 with trumpeter and educator Mark Buselli, held a 12-plus-year weekly residency at Indianapolis' famed Jazz Kitchen and has produced nine albums, including 2023's award-winning album The Gennett Suite. Since 2004, Wallarab has been arranger for the American Pianists Association, writing commissions in collaboration with pianists Emmet Cohen, Kenny Banks Jr., Sullivan Fortner, Isaiah J. Thomas, Paul Cornish, Aaron Diehl, Dan Tepfer, and many others. In 2025, Wallarab was arranger, conductor, and producer of Stryker with Strings – Goes to the Movies with guitarist Dave Stryker. The album remained in the top five of the jazz charts for 14 weeks. Wallarab was musical director and arranger for the 2024 Emmy Award winning PBS special Wes Montgomery at 100 and was nominated for an Emmy for the 2017 PBS production of his work The Gennett Suite. Wallarab is The David N. Baker Professor of Music in Jazz Studies at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He was inducted into the Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame in 2017 and is an active member of the Recording Academy (Grammy Awards).

Gramophone Magazine named Falletta as one of the 50 great conductors of all time, and ASCAP has honored her as "a leading force for music of our time." As music director of the BPO, Falletta became the first woman to lead a major American orchestra. She has guest conducted over 100 orchestras in North America and many of the most prominent orchestras in Europe, Asia, and South America. She is a leading recording artist for Naxos and has won two individual Grammys, for Richard Danielpour's The Passion of Yeshua with the BPO and for Kenneth Fuchs' Spiritualist with the London Symphony Orchestra. Her Naxos recording of John Corigliano's Mr. Tambourine Man with the BPO received two Grammys and her Scriabin recording with the BPO was nominated for a 2024 Grammy for Best Orchestral Performance. Falletta is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, has served by presidential appointment as a member of the National Council on the Arts, and is the recipient of many of the most prestigious conducting awards. She has conducted over 1,600 orchestral works by more than 600 composers,including over 135 works by women composers and over 150 premieres. After completing her bachelor's degree at Mannes, Falletta earned master's and doctoral degrees from The Juilliard School. When not on the podium, she enjoys playing classical guitar, writing, cycling, and yoga, and is an avid reader.Brent Gault is professor of music education at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He has taught elementary and early childhood music courses in Texas, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. He specializes in elementary general music education, early childhood music education, and Kodály-inspired methodology. Gault also has training in both the Orff and Dalcroze approaches to music education. He has presented sessions and research at conferences of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association, Dalcroze Society of America, International Kodály Society, International Society for Music Education, Organization of American Kodály Educators, and MENC: The National Association for Music Education. In addition, he has served as a presenter and guest lecturer for colleges and music education organizations in the United States, Canada, China, and Ireland. Articles by Gault have been published in various music education periodicals, including the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, Journal of Research in Music Education, Music Educators Journal, General Music Today, Kodály Envoy, Orff Echo, and American Dalcroze Journal. He is the co-editor (with Carlos Abril) of Teaching General Music (2016, Oxford University Press) and author of Listen Up! Fostering Musicianship Through Active Listening (2016, Oxford University Press). In addition to his duties with the Jacobs School Music Education Department, Gault serves as the program director for the Indiana University Children's Choir, where he conducts the Allegro Choir. He is a past president of the Organization of American Kodály Educators.

He is an active guitarist, arranger, conductor, and lecturer who has collected prizes in several guitar and chamber music competitions in the United States, Europe, and Latin America. Duarte is also a multi-instrumentalist who performs on different types of guitars and as a flutist. Duarte's primary studies were with guitarist Henrique Pinto, followed by William Buonocore, Eliot Fisk, and Ernesto Bitetti. He earned a D.M. at the Jacobs School while focusing his academic research on the topic of multiculturalism and guitar music. During his doctoral studies, Duarte had his research supported by the Presser Foundation as a recipient of the outstanding graduate music student award. His academic work also lead Marshall University to award him the Joan C. Edwards Distinguished Professor of Arts award. At Jacobs, he is the founder and director of the Guitar Ensemble, composed of 12 undergraduate and graduate students who perform fundamental repertoire related to the classical guitar tradition and various other styles while featuring original works and arrangements written specifically for the ensemble. Duarte also directs the IU All-Campus Guitar Ensemble and teaches general education lectures that cover broad historical subjects related to music and guitar. At Jacobs, he has also collaborated as director of ensembles of the Latin American Music Center. As a touring artist, Duarte presents concerts with fellow guitarist and Jacobs faculty member Petar Jankovic. The duo has had dozens of appearances since 2016, reaching audiences throughout the United States and abroad while featuring a modern approach to the classical guitar repertoire during concerts and master classes.
